The Mountain Castles Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors is proud to announce the following $1,000 scholarship recipients from each of the high schools within our two-county District.

Jacob King is the scholarship recipient from Craig County High School.  Jacob’s interests are in sustainable engineering.  As a high school student, he is completing college-level course work at Virginia Western Community College which will give him an Advanced Technology in Mechatronics Career Studies Certificate.

He will continue his engineering studies at either VMI or Virginia Western.

Molly Austin is the scholarship recipient from James River High School.

Molly has done much of her learning outdoors, having camped and hiked during Governor’s Ecology School and floated the Lower James as part of the James River Expedition.  Molly is also an outstanding student in the classroom as she has demonstrated by being ranked second in her graduating class.  She will pursue a degree in Horticulture at Virginia Western and Virginia Tech.

Jacob Barnard is the scholarship recipient from Lord Botetourt High School.  An avid outdoorsman, Jacob has a special interest in bow hunting and wildlife conservation.  He is also an accomplished golfer.

Jacob plans to attend Virginia Tech, majoring in animal and poultry science, with hopes of eventually becoming a veterinarian.
