The mission of Mountain Castles SWCD is to help farmers and landowners conserve natural resources and improve water quality through implementing Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs). We are seeking a qualified individual to join our team to help carry out projects as part of the Virginia Agricultural Cost Share (VACS) program. This is a part-time/paid internship position. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and a fast learner while having agricultural experience, effective communication skills, experience with mapping on programs similar to Google Earth, and proficiency with computers. Candidates must be able to work outside for extended periods of time and be willing to learn about surveying and agricultural BMPs.
We will provide training on all Virginia DCR computer programs, surveying and on the VACS program. Mountain Castles SWCD serves Botetourt and Craig Counties and our office is located in Bonsack, VA.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Calling prospective clients and arranging field/farm visits.
- Creating conservation plan maps using computer software.
- Measuring fence and pipeline on farms to create “as-built” maps.
- Assisting staff with outreach events.
- Calling previous clients to discuss potential projects.
