Mountain Castles Soil and Water Conservation District will continue to provide cost share for residential septic system repairs to qualified applicants in the Roanoke River watershed of Botetourt County through September 2021.  A new grant is scheduled to take effect October 1, but funds remain in the existing grant. The program area includes homes in Daleville, Troutville, Cloverdale, and Blue Ridge. The program is funded through an EPA grant administered by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

Qualified applicants will receive at least 50% cost share, regardless of income.  The program covers septic tank pump outs, repairs, and replacement systems. “This is a great opportunity for homeowners to get a half-price pump out, even if there aren’t any septic problems,” said Tim Miller, education and outreach coordinator for Mountain Castles SWCD.  Miller recommends that septic tanks be pumped every 5-6 years.  “Septic repairs can be costly, so a little preventative maintenance can really save you money in the long run,” said Miller.

For homeowners experiencing septic problems, the cost share program can offset some of the repair expense.  Complete system replacement is also covered. For more information contact Tim Miller at (540) 797-0217 or tim.miller@mountaincastles.org
